Guwahati, Jan 17 (IBNS): A woman was seriously injured while she jumped off a speeding vehicle to escape an alleged rape attempt in Assam's Karbi Anglong district on Monday night.

The incident took place at Silanijan, bordering area of Karbi Anglong and Golaghat district on Monday night, while she was travelling from her birthplace Titabor in Jorhat district to Silanijan, where she lived after her marriage.

A relative of the woman said that, she boarded a goods laden vehicle from Golaghat to Silanijan after she wouldn't get a passenger bus.

The woman asked the driver of the goods laden vehicle to drop her at Silanijan, but the vehicle didn't stop and some people of the vehicle tried to attempt rape her.

"Following the unfortunate situation she jumped off from the vehicle at a bridge near the Nambor reserve forest," the relative of the woman said.

Local people had rescued the woman in serious condition and immediately admitted at the government run hospital.
