Kolkata: Ambulance crashes into bakery van at Golpark, state bus catches fire at Jadavpur
According to reports, the speeding ambulance suddenly lost its control and smashed into the van at around 5:30 am.
Pradip Gayen, who was driving the bakery van, was seriously hurt in the mishap and was then rushed to the nearby M.R. Bangur Hospital.
Besides seizing the ambulance, police arrested its driver- Aman Mullick, who was allegedly driving the hospital wagon in drunken state, and charged him under IPC sections 279 (Rash driving or riding on a public way), 338 (Causing grievous hurt by act endangering life or personal safety of others) and 427 (Mischief causing damage to the amount of fifty rupees).
Meanwhile, a massive fire reportedly broke out in a government-run bus in front of Jadavpur Police Station in southern Kolkata on Monday afternoon.
According to reports, a West Bengal Transport Corporation (WBTC) owned bus of E-1 route, which was going to Howrah Station from Jadavpur 8-B Bus Stand, suddenly caught fire near Jadavpur Police Station at around 1:30 pm.
After all passengers evacuated the bus. Locals had started primary firefighting operations.
Later, as many as 2 fire tender engines rushed to the spot and brought the major blaze under control.
However, none was injured in the incident, while the bus was gutted almost completely due to the huge fire.
After preliminary investigation, fire officials said that the fire might have started due to a short-circuit, according to reports.
