Dalai Lama arrives in Guwahati for his 12-day north-east India visit

Guwahati, Apr 1 (IBNS): Tibetan spiritual leader Dalai Lama arrived in Guwahati on Saturday on his 12-day visit to north-east India.

Assam Transport minister Chandramohan Patowary and Arunachal Pradesh Chief Minister Pema Khandu welcomed the Nobel Peace laureate at Borjhar International airport.


The Tibetan spiritual leader will attend the concluding ceremony of platinum jubilee celebration of The Assam Tribune in Guwahati on Saturday.


The Dalai Lama will release an Assamese translation of his first autobiography and deliver a speech during a programme organised by Krishna Kanta Handique State Open University in Guwahati on April 2.


He will also attend an open session in the Namami Brahmaputra festival, biggest ever river festival in India, on April 2, which was inaugurated by President of India Pranab Mukherjee on March 31.


The Tibetan spiritual leader will also visit  Dibrugarh in Assam, and Tawang, Itanagar, and Bomdila in Arunachal Pradesh during his 12-day visit.


Meanwhile, China has objected to the Dalai Lama's visit to Tawang.


Tight security has been arranged in Assam and Arunachal Pradesh for the Tibetan spiritual leader's visit to the region.
