Assam govt to set up cultural complex in name of Sati Sadhani

Guwahati, Apr 21 (IBNS): Assam Chief Minister Sarbananda Sonowal on Friday said the state government will set up a cultural complex in the name of Sati Sadhani.

While speaking at the Birangana Sadhani Divas organized by the Cultural Affairs department in association with Golaghat district administration at Sammanya Kshetra in Golaghat, the Assam CM said that, Sati Sadhani was a symbol of sacrifice, strength, self-dignity, freedom and love for the mother land and is a source of inspiration for all.

“To enable the younger generation to emulate the passion and dedication of Sati Sadhani, state government will set up a cultural complex after  her name,” Sonowal said.
          
The Assam CM said that Chutiyas are integral parts of a greater Assamese Society and Sati Sadhani belonged to the great Sutiya clan personified love for the mother land.

Synchronising with the occasion Birangana Sadhani Divas, Sonowal conferred Sati Sadhani Award-2017 to veteran social worker Birobala Rabha who has dedicated her life to uproot superstitions from the society.

Sonowal said that society cannot progress unless superstitions are not removed from the society. Her relentless crusade against witch hunting in the state has set an example of a dedicated social service.

Sonowal said that the overall development of the State is not possible without the development of all the people belonging to all caste, creed and ethnicities.

Informing that development of all sections of the people has been the main agenda of the present government, Sonowal said that his government has made special provisions in the budget this year for the development of all. He also urged upon the people of Assam to keep a close vigil on the government and seek their cooperation to check corruption at all levels of governance.

To make Assam one of the front runners in development, chief minister Sonowal sought cooperation from all and said that through ‘Discovery of Assam’ all should lend their hands to rediscover the potentialities, possibilities of Assam.

“Assam has a rich cultural heritage which should be projected before the outsiders who come to Assam as tourists. The state government in order to showcase the bounty of opportunities in the State organised Namami Brahmaputra. River Brahmaputra is the lifeline of the people of Assam. Besides impacting the lives of the people living on both sides of the bank of the river, Brahmaputra has a great role in influencing the growth of the State,” Sonowal said.

Emphasising ‘reform, perform and transform’ as the driving force, Sonowal said that the State Government is taking up several schemes.

He also said that motivated by the energetic and inspiring leadership of Narendra Modi the country has today curved its name as one of the fast developing economies in the world.

Sonowal also said that the government is committed to make Assam foreigners free, insurgency free, corruption free and pollution free and he sought cooperation from all the people of Assam to help the in its fight against corruption.


Agriculture Minister Atul Bora, Cultural Affairs Minister Naba Kumar Doley, MP Kamakhya Prasad Tasa, MLA Bimal Bora, former MLA Sarat Saikia, Director Cultural Affairs Deba Prasad Misra, representatives from Sutiya organisations were also present on the occasion.
