Wagah attackers warn Modi, says next target is India

| | Nov 05, 2014, at 08:15 pm
New Delhi/Islamabad, Nov 5 (IBNS): After claiming responsibility of the deadly suicide attack at Wagah earlier this week, that took away at least 57 people and left over 110 injured, the Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan Jamaat-ul-Ahrar (TTP-JA), a splinter group of the Pakistani Taliban, has directly threatened Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi.

In his twitter account, TTP-JA spokesperson Ehsanullah Ehsan warned that Indian targets might be next.

He wrote in Urdu, "This attack is an open message to both governments across the border. If we can attack this side, the other side could also be attacked."

Continuing with his attack, Ehsan then targeted Modi by saying "You (Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi) are the killer of hundreds of Muslims. We wl take the revenge of innocent people of Kashmir and Gugrat (sic)".

The suicide attack took place on Sunday at the main land border crossing at Wagah.

The explosion ripped through a car park about 500 metres from Pakistan's border gate just as hundreds of people were leaving after the popular flag-lowering ceremony that takes place every evening on both sides of the border.

Soon after that Ehsan claimed responsibility of the attack by saying "Attack was planned in #TTPJA HQ. Vid will be released soon."

It is to be mentioned here that right after the attack, Modi condemned the act.

In micro-blogging site PM wrote, "Terror attack in Pakistan near Wagah Border is shocking. I strongly condemn such a dastardly act of terrorism." Security agencies believed, Ehsan's reply were sort of revenge to Modi's comments.

Central intelligence sources are taking the threat seriously.

It has been learnt that, PM Modi has been briefed by his security advisors.

They opined that Sunday's attack at the Wagah border was a clear message that the Pakistani Taliban group intends to target India.

Ehsan's tweets were still posted in his twitter page, which verifies the leader's comments.

It is noteworthy to mention that, TTP-JA is a new outfit that broke away from Taliban movement in September and has announced its support for the Islamic State fighting in Iraq and Syria.

Terror threat in India grew manifold after Al-Qaeda chief Ayman al-Zawahiri, who is known to be close to TTP-JA, had announced the creation of a South Asia wing of al Qaeda in September, threatening to stage attacks on countries across the subcontinent.

On Oct 2, a terror module got busted in Khagragarh in West Bengal's Burdwan district after an inadvertent explosion took place when suspected Jamaat-ul-Mujahideen Bangladesh (JMB) terrorists were making Improvised Explosive Device (IED), thus killing 2 of them.

The explosion exposed a can-of-worms regarding terrorist modules and sleeper-cells operating silently in Bengal and adjoining states.

Furthermore on Tuesday, India's Navy withdrew two warships from the Kolkata Port after intelligence agencies warned of an attack on the port and the city.

The ships were scheduled to stay till Thursday. The incident sparked a high alert along the Kolkata and Haldia ports.

The ships were reportedly removed after Central Industrial Security Force (CISF), which is in charge of Port area security warned of a possible terror attack through the porous Ganga riverine.

Home Ministry earlier received two intelligence warnings in mid-October of possible attacks along the border or at the Golden Temple in the nearby city of Amritsar, the most sacred site for Sikhs.
