Chennai/IBNS: A family of four - a doctor, his wife, and two sons - were found dead at their home in Chennai's Anna Nagar on Thursday morning, media reports said.

The police suspect the family committed suicide due to financial problems.

The police found Dr Balamurugan, a sonologist, his advocate wife Sumathy, and their sons, NEET aspirant Jaswant Kumar, and Class 11 student Lingesh Kumar hanging in two rooms.

Dr Balamurugan, who owned several ultrasound centres across the city, was allegedly in huge debt.

On Thursday morning, when the doctor's driver reached the house, he suspected something was wrong when nobody answered the door.

He went to the police, who found the bodies of Balamurugan, 52, his wife Sumathy, 47, and their sons.

"We suspect they killed themselves. They were in debt. We are investigating. No formal complaint received from anyone so far," a police officer told NDTV.

It's not clear yet if the family has left behind any suicide notes or if they were under any pressure from money lenders.
