Chennai, Jan 25 (IBNS): The Supreme Court on Friday rejected hearing a PIL which sought a CBI probe into the alleged role of Tamil Nadu CM Edappadi Palaniswami in the robbery attempt and murder at Kodanad estate of former CM Jayalalitha.

The incident reportedly occurred in 2017.

The bench, which included CJI Gogoi and Justice Khanna, was hearing the petition, reports said.

"The petition was filed by "Traffic" Ramaswamy, who claimed to be public spirited citizen, reported Live Law.

"Somebody makes a statement that CM has committed a crime. CM says he has not done it. He orders and enquiry. What's wrong in it", CJI Gogoi was quoted as saying in a report published in Live Law.

The petition was filed in the backdrop fo the investigative documentary by Narada News editor Mathew Samuel in connection with the robbery and murder attempt in the Kodanad estate in April 2017.

As per The New Minute report,  in the 16-minute video, two men – Sayan and ‘Walayar’ Manoj – who allegedly broke into the estate, alleging that the job was ordered by the Chief Minister.

Edappadi Palaniswami earlier denied allegations and said the documentary had no truth in it.

Tamil Nadu police had arrested Sayan and Manoj from Delhi.

They were later released on a bail by a Chennai court.

The CM had even filed a Rs 1.1 crore defamation suit against journalist Mathew Samuel and six others over the issue.

"The Madras High Court has since order a gag order on Mathew Samuel and the others, restraining them from talking to the media about the allegations," reported The News Minute.

Live Law reported, Ramaswamy alleged in the petition that the Tamil Nadu police have registered cases against Samuel, Sayan and Manoj in an attempt to silence them.

The state police are trying to destroy evidence in the case, he had even alleged.

On Apr 23, 2017, the security guard of the Kodanad estate was murdered during a robbery attempt, reports said.
