New Delhi, May 23 (UNI): The Congress on Thursday termed as "mischievous" and "incorrect" the reports of party president Rahul Gandhi's resignation from the post.

"Reports of resignation of Mr Gandhi as Congress president are mischievous and incorrect," Mr Surjewala said while addressing the mediapersons at the party headquarters here.

When asked a question in the press conference today about affixation of responsibility post defeat, Mr Gandhi said a meeting of the CWC would be called soon.

Accepting his defeat in Amethi parliamentary constituency, Mr Gandhi said: "I congratulate Smriti Irani ji for her victory in Amethi. I wish she would take care of Amethi with love and respect. I respect people of Amethi for their decision."

The counting of votes for the Lok Sabha elections showed the BJP heading towards a landslide win, with the saffron party leading in 300 seats while the NDA was leading in over 340 seats.
