Adani Energy secures Rs 25,000 cr HVDC project, its largest contract yet

New Delhi: Adani Energy Solutions Ltd (AESL), India’s leading private transmission and distribution company, has clinched its largest-ever contract worth Rs 25,000 crore for the Bhadla (Rajasthan) to Fatehpur (Uttar Pradesh) High Voltage Direct Current (HVDC) transmission project.

This landmark deal raises AESL's ongoing order book to Rs 54,761 crore and expands its transmission network to 25,778 km with a transformation capacity of 84,186 megavolt-amperes (MVA), the company announced in a statement.

"AESL won the project through the Tariff-Based Competitive Bidding (TBCB) process, with REC Power Development & Consultancy Ltd (RECPDCL) acting as the bid process coordinator. The project SPV was officially transferred to AESL on January 20, 2025," the statement read.

The Bhadla-Fatehpur project involves the development of a 6,000-megawatt (MW) HVDC system over a 2,400-kilometre stretch, with 7,500 MVA of transmission capacity.

It is designed to evacuate 6 gigawatts (GW) of renewable energy from Rajasthan's Renewable Energy Zones to North India and the national grid. AESL aims to complete the project within 4.5 years.

Commenting on the milestone, AESL CEO Kandarp Patel said, “By enabling efficient evacuation of renewable energy from some of the most inhospitable regions of the country and connecting them to the national grid, AESL is playing its role in India’s decarbonization journey. We will be deploying the latest technology and practices to deliver the project on time and with minimal environmental impact.”

The Bhadla-Fatehpur project marks AESL's third HVDC venture, following the completed Mundra-Mahendragarh Project and the ongoing Aarey-Kudus Project.
