New Delhi/IBNS: Adani Ports and Special Economic Zone Limited (APSEZ) announced that it has received the letter of intent (LOI) for the operation and maintenance (O&M) of the container facility in Kolkata's Syama Prasad Mookerjee Port, reports said.

According to reports, the Adani Group company has bagged a five-year operation and maintenance (O&M) contract of Syama Prasad Mookerjee Port's container facility through a competitive bidding process.

The company said in a stock exchange filing that the successful bidder has to deploy cargo handling equipment within seven months from the letter of acceptance (LOA) date, reports CNBC TV18.

The Syama Prasad Mookerjee Port in Kolkata is the nominated port for the Indo-Bangladesh Protocol on Inland Water Transit and Trade route, while Netaji Subhas Dock in Kolkata's Garden Reach has regular liner service calls from the hub ports of Singapore, Port Kelang and Colombo.

The dock is touted to be the largest container terminal on the eastern coast of India, reports said.

Netaji Subhas Dock handled around 0.63 million TEUs (twenty-foot equivalent unit) in FY2023-24, serving a vast hinterland encompassing West Bengal, Bihar, Uttar Pradesh, Jharkhand, Assam, the northeastern hill states and the landlocked neighbouring countries of Nepal and Bhutan, as per reports.
