Air India recruited over 5,700 staff members in FY24 as part of its f-yr revival plan

Mumbai: Air India recruited over 5,700 staff members, with over 3,800 comprising the flying crew in the FY24, as a component of its five-year revival strategy aimed at restoring the airline's fortunes, media reported citing the airline's statement.

As a measure to broaden its reach, the airline introduced 16 fresh routes, covering 11 international destinations, in the previous financial year.

During this period, it added four A320 neos, 14 A321 neos, eight B777s, and three A350s into its fleet.

In his message to the staff on Friday, Air India CEO and MD Campbell Wilson said the airline has onboarded the first batch of cadet pilots who will soon commence ground training with its partner flying schools in the US later this month, a report in the media said.

"Also, after much hard work, our cabin crew team also cleared the backlog of training batches -- and marked the release-to-service of our 4000th new crew member since privatization," he said, according to the report.

As per a communication outlining the initiatives undertaken during the initial phase of the five-year Vihaan.AI plan, the airline recruited in excess of 3,800 flight personnel and over 1,950 non-flight personnel throughout the 2023-24 period, it added.

Wilson noted that on April 1, the airline transitioned to a new Revenue Accounting System.

"Our Finance and HR colleagues are busy compiling the numbers which will, amongst other things, determine increments and, once the counting, reporting, auditing and board approvals are complete in a few weeks' time, we'll share the news and ensure that changes are made effective from 1st April," he added, according to the report.

The airline has been in the midst of its annual appraisal cycle for the staff for a sometime now, said the report.
