Big boost for ECL! Coal Minister praises Eastern Coalfields, sets bigger targets for growth

| @indiablooms | May 13, 2026, at 05:23 pm

Satish Chandra Dubey, Minister of State for Coal and Mines, visited Eastern Coalfields Limited (ECL) on Wednesday to review the company’s operational achievements, ongoing initiatives, and strategic roadmap for future growth.

During the visit, detailed discussions were held on key operational aspects, including coal production, dispatch, mine safety, operational efficiency, and ECL’s sustainable development initiatives.

As part of the programme, the Minister visited ECL’s Kunustoria Area, where he was welcomed by Satish Jha in the presence of Md. Anzar Alam, Gunjan Kumar Sinha, Girish Gopinathan Nair, senior executives, General Managers, and Heads of Departments. A ceremonial Guard of Honour was presented to the Minister during the visit.

During the review meeting, Dubey emphasised the need to strike a balance between coal production and environmental responsibility. He encouraged the adoption of modern, sustainable, and eco-conscious mining practices while underscoring the importance of technological advancement, efficient resource utilisation, and continuous improvements in safety standards to further strengthen ECL’s operational capabilities.

The Minister appreciated ECL’s efforts and congratulated Team ECL for its commendable performance during the financial year 2025–26, despite facing several operational and external challenges.

He particularly acknowledged the company’s progressive initiatives, including Underground Coal Gasification for effective utilisation of deeper coal reserves, scientific mine closure activities aimed at repurposing mined-out land, implementation of First Mile Connectivity (FMC) projects to minimise air pollution and enable faster coal transportation, and the expansion of solar energy installations.

Dubey further advised that systematic and periodic stock verification measures should be adopted to ensure accuracy in declared coal stock levels.

Referring to the ongoing geopolitical tensions in West Asia and the emerging global energy challenges, the Minister highlighted ECL’s crucial role in strengthening India’s energy security and maintaining operational resilience while ensuring optimum resource utilisation.

Expressing confidence in the company’s future trajectory, he said ECL is well-positioned to achieve greater milestones and attain more advanced implementation status across all operational and developmental parameters before his next visit.

The Minister also directed ECL to submit all matters requiring intervention from the Ministry of Coal — including issues involving coordination with various state and central authorities — in a consolidated and structured format to enable effective follow-up action.

Sharing valuable policy guidance and strategic inputs aimed at enhancing productivity and supporting long-term growth, Dubey reiterated the Government of India’s commitment to strengthening the nation’s energy security and expressed appreciation for the dedication and collective efforts of Team ECL.
