ICC team meets West Bengal CM

Kolkata, Sept 15 (IBNS): An Indian Chamber of Commerce (ICC) team, led by President Roopen Roy , met West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee in Kolkata on Monday.
The team, which also comprised of Shiv Siddhant Kaul, Senior Vice President ; Aditya V. Agarwal, Vice President and  Rajeev Singh, Director General of the Chamber, discussed key issues pertaining to ICC’s future activities and the State Economy, at length. 
 
The ICC is the only Chamber from India that is bidding to host the 10th World Chambers’ Congress in 2017 in India, and has chosen and projected Kolkata as the venue for this very prestigious Forum. 
 
"The Hon’ble Chief Minister appreciated this initiative and assured full support from the State Govt. for making this a success. Chief Minister also assured that a senior State Govt. official will be travelling with the ICC Team for making the Bid Presentation to the World Chambers Federation Governing Council on the 17th of October in Tokyo for the selection of Kolkata as the venue for the 2017 Congress," the ICC said in a statement.
 
State Finance Minister Amit Mitra was also present during the meeting.
 
With reference to the Chinese President’s official visit to India that begins on Tuesday, ICC President Roopen Roy highlighted that the Chamber has been playing a key role with regard to strengthening of India-China business relations and said that Bengal can explore significant investment opportunities particularly with the Yunnan province, as there exist several mutual synergies. 
 
The ICC also proposed to CM that a Business Delegation from Bengal be taken to Kunming for promoting the ‘Biswa Banga Sammelan’ which is scheduled to take place in January, 2015, through necessary dialogue exchanges with the Chinese Industry Representatives, and also for inviting a Chinese Business Delegation to Kolkata during the Investment Show. 
 
The CM agreed to the Chamber’s views regarding a long-term Bengal – Yunnan business engagement.
