India sees 7.24 per cent rise in yearly passenger vehicles sales

New Delhi, Apr 8 (IBNS) Society of Indian Automobile Manufacturers (SIAM), the apex national body representing the Indian automobile industry, said on Friday that the Automotive Mission Plan 2006-16 ended on a positive note with the industry reaching some targets and missing a few marginally.

The apex body said that the industry produced a total 23,960,940 vehicles, including passenger vehicles, commercial vehicles, three wheelers, two wheelers and quadricycle, in April-March 2016 as against 23,358,047 in April-March 2015, registering a marginal growth of 2.58 per cent over the same period last year.

In the domestic segment, SIAM reported that sales of Passenger Vehicles grew by 7.24 per cent in April-March 2016 over the same period last year.

Within the Passenger Vehicles, Passenger Cars, Utility Vehicles and Vans grew by 7.87 per cent, 6.25 per cent and 3.58 per cent, respectively over the same time frame

The overall Commercial Vehicles segment registered a growth of 11.51 per cent in April-March 2016 compared to the same period last year.

Medium & Heavy Commercial Vehicles (M&HCVs) registered a growth at 29.91 per cent and Light Commercial Vehicles grew marginally by 0.30 per cent during April-March 2016 over the same period last year.

Three-Wheeler sales grew by 1.03 per cent in April-March 2016 over the same period last year. Passenger Carrier sales grew by 2.11 per cent and Goods Carrier sales declined by 3.62 per cent, respectively in April-March 2016 over April-March 2015.

Two-Wheeler sales registered a growth at 3.01 per cent during April-March 2016 over April-March 2015.

Within the Two-Wheelers segment, Scooters grew by 11.79 per cent while Motorcycles and Mopeds dropped by 0.24 per cent and 3.32 per cent, respectively in April-March 2016 over April-March 2015.

In the exports segment, SIAM reported that in April-March 2016, overall automobile exports grew by 1.91 percent.

Passenger Vehicles, Commercial Vehicles, and Two Wheelers registered a growth of 5.24 per cent, 16.97 per cent, and 0.97 per cent respectively, in April-March 2016 over April-March 2015, while the Three-Wheelers dipped by 0.78 per cent .
