Indian Market: Sensex ends at record closing high, Nifty above 17,500

Mumbai/UNI: The BSE Sensex ended at a record high while Nifty above 17,500 points on Wednesday.

While BSE Sensex closed at 58,732.20, up 476.11 points or 0.82 per cent, Nifty closed at 17,519.45, up 139.45 points or 0.80 per cent.

The Sensex, which opened at 58,345.11, registered days high and low at 58,777.06 and 58,272.82 pts respectively.

The Nifty, which opened at 17,387.65 recorded days high and low at 17,532.70 and 17,386.90 pts respectively.

In the intraday trade, small and mid caps also recorded highs. BSE Midcap and smallcap indices closed 0.65 per cent and 0.86 per cent higher, respectively.

BSE telecom index was up 3.45 per cent, BSE utilities index registered a hike of 2.29 per cent, BSE power was up 2.21 per cent, BSE tech 1.71 per cent, BSE IT 0.82 per cent and consumer durable index was up 1.62 per cent.

NTPC, Bharati Airtel, HCL Tech, Titan, SBI were among the top gainers while Axis Bank, Asian Paints, Ultra TechCement, Nestle were the losers at BSE.

At NSE NTPC, Bharati Airtel, Coal India and ONGC were among the top gainers while Kanpur Plastipack, JIK Industries, Suryoday Small Finance were among the top losers.
