Indian Market: Sensex surges 379.43 points

Mumbai: The BSE Sensex on Tuesday advanced 379.43 points at 59,842.21 following gains in auto, realty, consumer discretionary goods and services and industrial stocks.

The Nifty of the National Stock Exchange (NSE) too moved up 127.10 points at 17,825.25.

The Sensex opened on a strong note at 59,765.12, up 303 points. It spurted 461 points at 59,923.03, the day's high, before closing at 59,842.21, surging 379.43 points from its previous close.

The Sensex registered the day's high and low at 59,923.03 and 59,673.96 respectively.

The Nifty recorded the day's high and low at 17,839.10 and 17,764.05 points respectively.

Sectoral indices like auto, realty, consumer discretionary goods and services and industrials kept the market strong.

In scrips, M&M was a star gainer up by 2.33 per cent to Rs 1,289.10 followed by Maruti Suzuki by 2.19 per cent to Rs 8,890.05, Asian Paints by 2.09 per cent to Rs 3,497.55, Hind Unilever by 1.92 per cent to Rs 2,645 and Ultracemco by 1.23 per cent to Rs 6,469.70.

The losers were Bharti Airtel by 0.81 per cent to Rs 704.10, SBI by 0.73 per cent to Rs 526.75, Bajaj finance by 0.26 per cent to Rs 7,290 and TCS by 0.20 per cent to Rs 3,393.

The Mid Cap increased by 1.03 per cent and Small Cap by 1.03 per cent.

In 30 scrips, 26 advanced while 4 declined.

The Asian Market remained firm as Australia rose by 0.51 per cent, China by 0.05 per cent and Taiwan by 0.02 per cent.
