Indian Market: Sensex up 198 pts

Mumbai/UNI: Extending gains for the third consecutive session on Wednesday, the BSE Sensex soared by 198 points to open at 59,942 on the strength of Telecom, Utilities, Auto and Bankex stocks.

The Nifty too rose by 34.95 points at 17,857.25.

The Sensex registered the days high and low at 59,942 and 59,785.66 points respectively.

The Nifty recorded days high and low at 17,884.60 and 17,833.80 points.

The Mid Cap rose by 0.22 per cent and Small Cap by 0.64 per cent.

In 30 scrips, 16 advanced while 14 declined.

The gainers were HDFC Bank by 1.25 per cent to Rs 1615.30, HDFC by 0.99 per cent to Rs 2768.05, SBI by 0.83 per cent to Rs 468.50, Axis Bank by 0.67 per cent to Rs 787.75 and M& M by 0.55 per cent to Rs 847.55.

The losers were HCL Technology by 0.79 per cent to Rs 1294.80, Titan by 0.72 per cent to Rs 2176.20, Tech Mahindra by 0.58 per cent to Rs 1404.45 and IndusInd Bank by 0.56 per cent to Rs 1164.55.
