June car sales: Maruti Suzuki continues to dominate Indian car market with 40% market share

New Delhi/IBNS: The Indian four-wheeler market witnessed a modest overall growth of 3.63 percent in June 2024, compared to the same month of the last year, with total car sales rising to 3,39,415 units from 3,27,539 units in June 2023, reports said.

Maruti Suzuki, the Indian subsidiary of Japanese automaker Suzuki Motor Corporation, continues to dominate the country's car market with a robust performance, selling 1,37,160 units in June 2024, a 3.11 percent rise from June 2023’s 1,33,027 units.

This solidified Maruti Suzuki's market share at 40.41 percent.

South Korean automaker Hyundai secured the second position with sales of 50,103 units in June 204, making a slight growth of 0.20 percent from 50,001 units in June last year.

The market share of the brand now stands at 14.76 percent.

Tata Motors recorded a drop in sales, with 43,524 units sold in June this year, down 7.86 percent from June last year’s 47,235 units.

This decline reduced Tata's market share to 12.82 percent.

Mahindra Auto witnessed a significant growth, selling 40,022 units in June 2024, a 22.82 percent rise from 32,585 units in June last year.

The Indian automaker’s market share increases to 11.79 percent.

Japanese carmaker Toyota reportedly achieved the highest growth rate among the major players, with sales rising by 41.21 percent to 25,752 units in June this year from 18,237 units in June last year.

The brand's market share now stands at 7.59 percent.

Other major automobile brands operating in India have updated their market shares as well based on their sales recorded in June 2024 — Kia at 6.28 percent (21,300 units), Honda at 1.42 percent (4,804 units), MG Motor (Retail) at 1.37 percent (4,644 units), Renault at 1.05 percent (3,553 units), Volkswagen (VW) at 0.96 percent (3,260 units), Skoda 0.76 percent (2,566 units), Nissan at 0.62 percent (2,107 units), Citroen at 0.10 percent (339 units), and Jeep at 0.08 percent (281 units).
