New Delhi: Out of the 6,44,131 villages in India, as recorded by the Registrar General of India, approximately 6,22,840 villages now have mobile network coverage, with 6,14,564 of them equipped with 4G connectivity as of September 30, 2024.

Under the Pradhan Mantri Janjati Adivasi Nyaya Maha Abhiyan (PM JANMAN) Mission, spearheaded by the Ministry of Tribal Affairs, efforts have been directed at connecting Particularly Vulnerable Tribal Group (PVTG) habitations.

Of the 4,543 identified mobile-uncovered PVTG habitations, 1,136 have already been provided with mobile connectivity.

To further enhance telecom access, the government is implementing projects under the Digital Bharat Nidhi initiative, focusing on rural, remote, and hilly areas, including PVTG habitations.

As of October 31, 2024, 1,018 mobile towers have been sanctioned under these initiatives to extend 4G connectivity to PVTG habitations.

The estimated cost for these projects is Rs 1,014 crore.

The information was shared by the Minister of State for Communications and Rural Development, Dr. Pemmasani Chandra Sekhar, in a written response to a question in the Rajya Sabha today.
