NPCI opens sources Drunix to strengthen enterprise blockchain infrastructure

| @indiablooms | Jun 17, 2026, at 05:41 pm

National Payments Corporation of India (NPCI) today announced the release of Drunix, an open-source, enterprise-grade blockchain platform designed to help organisations build and scale tokenization platforms, digital asset ecosystems and multi-organisation networks.

Drunix is a high-performance distributed ledger platform built as an enhanced fork of Hyperledger Fabric.

Engineered for enterprise and public infrastructure adoption, Drunix enables blockchain deployment at scale without compromising on privacy, governance, or interoperability.

While maintaining compatibility with existing Hyperledger Fabric ecosystems, the platform introduces significant architectural enhancements to improve throughput, scalability, and operational efficiency.

Built on NPCI’s extensive research and experimentation in blockchain and tokenization technologies, Drunix reflects the organisation's focus on creating reusable technology building blocks that can accelerate the adoption of distributed ledger technologies across industries.

With initiatives such as FiMi, Vigil-AI and Falcon, NPCI has continued to contribute open-source technologies that strengthen India's digital infrastructure. Drunix marks NPCI’s second major open-source contribution in the blockchain and tokenization space, following Falcon, which focused on production-grade blockchain network management and orchestration. Drunix extends this vision by addressing the core blockchain runtime and transaction processing layer.

Vishal Kanvaty, Chief Technology Officer, NPCI said, “As digital ecosystems continue to evolve, our focus remains on enabling innovation through open-source collaboration and scalable, future-ready infrastructure. Through Drunix, we aim to accelerate blockchain readiness by providing the ecosystem with foundational technologies that support experimentation, interoperability and real-world adoption. This initiative reflects our commitment to strengthening India’s digital infrastructure while contributing to the global advancement of open-source innovation.”

With this open-source contribution, NPCI continues to strengthen its role in enabling innovation and building efficient foundational technologies that support the evolution of India’s digital infrastructure.
