New Delhi: Reliance Jio, India’s largest telecom operator, lost 3.76 million wireless subscribers in October but enhanced its active mobile subscriber base by adding 3.847 million users, news agency PTI reported, citing monthly data released by telecom regulator TRAI on Monday.

Bharti Airtel added 1.928 million wireless subscribers in the same period, with its active subscriber base increasing by about 2.723 million.

Vodafone Idea saw a decline of 1.977 million wireless subscribers, while its active user base dropped by nearly 723,000.

Reliance Jio’s total wireless subscriber count fell to 460 million in October from 463.7 million in September.

However, its active user base, a key metric for telcos, grew. Vodafone Idea’s total wireless user base declined to 210.4 million in October from 212.4 million the previous month.

In total, the number of active wireless subscribers across all operators in October stood at 1,066.67 million (106.6 crore), according to Trai's sectoral data.

TRAI also reported that broadband subscribers dropped to 941.47 million by the end of October 2024, reflecting a monthly decline of 0.31%.

“The total telephone subscriber base in India decreased from 1,190.66 million at the end of September 2024 to 1,188.20 million at the end of October 2024, marking a monthly decline of 0.21%,” TRAI stated.

Urban telephone subscriptions dropped from 662.15 million in September to 660.42 million in October, while rural subscriptions fell from 528.51 million to 527.79 million during the same period.

The monthly decline rates for urban and rural subscriptions were 0.26% and 0.14%, respectively.
