SAIL employees bag Vishwakarma Rashtriya Awards

New Delhi, Sept 19 (IBNS): In a function held at Scope-New Delhi SAIL Chairman, CS Verma felicitated company employees who have won the prestigious Vishwakarma Rashtriya Puraskar (VRP).
The Vishwakarma Rashtriya Awards are a public recognition of outstanding achievement on the part of the workers in increasing productivity, quality, safety, working conditions, etc. 
 
The awards are given to individuals belonging to Industrial Undertakings both in the private and public sector.  
 
Earlier Minister of Mines, Steel, Labor and Employment Narendra Singh Tomar in presence of Vishnu Deo Sai, Minister of State for Mines, Steel, Labour and Employment had presented the Vishwakarma Rashtriya Puraskar (VRP) to the awardees at a special ceremony held at Vigyan Bhawan.
 
It is noteworthy that the estimated annual savings resulting from implementation of works mentioned in SAIL's award winning projects are approximately over Rs 65 crores (Recurring) & Rs 7 crores  (Non Recurring).
 
On the occasion, SAIL Chairman commented, "We are proud of our employees, who have proved their innovative potential and creative streak year after year. I am happy that we have won 19 out of total of 28 awards involving 105 employees, which is a big achievement. I congratulate all awardees for their exemplary contribution and commitment."
 
Continuing with the tradition of previous years, 105 out of total 126 Vishwakarma Rashtriya Awardees are from SAIL, i.e. 83% of the total awardees, the company said in a statement.
 
During the course of the event, a booklet titled– ‘Celebrating the finest innovators in SAIL’ was released by Chairman and senior officials from SAIL.
 
For the Performance Year, 142 applications were received for VRP, out of which 28 were awarded and these awards were shared by 126 winners. Awards which were given to employees from SAIL's five plants including Bhilai Steel Plant, Bokaro Steel Plant, Rourkela Steel Plant, Durgapur Steel Plant and Salem Steel Plant. In the Prime Minister’s Shram Awards for 2012, SAIL had won 6 out of the 16 awards conferred on PSUs; notably SAIL employees constituted half of the total Shram awardees.
 
Instituted by the Government of India in 1965, the Vishwakarma Rashtriya Puraskar is a national award given every year by the Ministry of Labour in association with the Directorate General, Factory Advice Service & Labour Institutes. The award is applicable for workers employed in the factories & docks.
