Stock market opens in green with Nifty above 22,400, Sensex near 73,900

Mumbai/IBNS: The Indian benchmark indices opened in the green on Tuesday (Apr 23), following Asian peers higher as investors' focus shifted to companies results for the quarter (Q4) ended March 31.

At the opening bell, Nifty was up 64.10 points (0.29 percent) at 22,400.50 and Sensex was up 200.90 points (0.27 percent) at 73,849.52. About 1758 shares advanced, 425 shares declined, and 84 shares remained unchanged.

Some major gainers on Nifty were Bharti Airtel, HCL Technologies, SBI Life Insurance, Dr Reddy's Labs and Wipro, while Nestle India, Power Grid, Eicher Motors, M&M and Reliance Industries were among the major losers.

Meanwhile, Asian stocks rose after US shares rebounded from a $2 trillion selloff on optimism that big tech leaders would announce hefty profits this week.

Equity benchmarks in Hong Kong, Japan and South Korea advanced, while mainland China's equities slipped.

On Apr 22 (Monday), the NSE Nifty closed 189.40 points (0.86 percent) higher at  22,336.40, while the BSE Sensex closed 560.29 points (0.77 percent) higher at  73,648.62.
