Tata Steel conferred National Energy Conservation Award 2016

New Delhi, Dec 14 (IBNS): The Bureau of Energy Efficiency, Ministry of Power, Government of India, awarded Tata Steel the First Prize in the Integrated Steel Sector at the National Energy Conservation Award 2016 for its excellence in Energy Conservation and Management.

The award was given by Minister of State (I/C) for Power, Coal, New and Renewable Energy and Mines Piyush Goyal on the occasion of National Energy Conservation Day celebrated in New Delhi on Wednesday.

Suresh Kumar, Vice President Shared Services, Tata Steel and J.P.N. Singh, Chief Power Systems and Energy, Tata Steel received the award on behalf of Tata Steel.

On receiving the award, Suresh Kumar, Vice President Shared Services, Tata Steel said, “We are delighted to receive this acknowledgement of our efforts in energy conservation and management. This will further reinforce our commitment to this critical area of operational excellence. In view of the expanding economy and substantial increase in demand for energy, it is imperative to be sensitive to energy conservation and to deploy environment friendly practices in operations.”

J.P.N. Singh, Chief Power Systems and Energy added saying, “The award acknowledges efforts put in by Tata Steel to reduce thermal & electrical consumptions over 5% during the year. Reduction in blast furnace fuel rate and specific power consumption, higher utilisation of by-product gases for steam & power generation, and waste heat recovery have been the primary contributing factors during the year towards achievement of overall reduction in specific energy consumption.”

The mission of the Bureau of Energy Efficiency, a statutory body under the Ministry of Power set-up by Government of India on March 1, 2002, is to assist in developing policies and strategies with a thrust on self-regulation and market principles within the overall framework of the Energy Conservation Act, 2001 with the primary objective of reducing energy intensity of the Indian economy.
