22,000 students participate in first TCS Fit4life Campus Challenge Run

Kolkata, Feb 9 (IBNS): Tata Consultancy Services (TCS), a leading IT services, consulting and business solutions firm, announced on Monday that over 22,000 students from 900 colleges across nine cities in India participated by running in the inaugural TCS Fit4Life Campus Challenge.
Showing a strong focus and enthusiasm for fitness, students ran the 5 kilometer course in nine cities in India - Ahmedabad, Bangalore, Chennai, Delhi, Hyderabad, Trivandrum, Kolkata, Mumbai and Pune.
 
The event not only raised awareness about fitness but also contributed back to society. One million rupees (Rs 10 lakh) was donated by TCS to the PT Usha School of Athletics, which aims to train and promote women athletes and four NGOs involved in the cause advancing education of girls across India.
 
In Kolkata, the event took place in salt lake stadium. Over 2,500 students registered for the run from 45 colleges. The winner and runners up, who took home Tata Stryder mountain bikes, were Dharmendra Gope from Asansol Engg College, Diptiman Chowdhury from Academy of Technology and Alok Gupta from MCKV Institute of Engg Howrah .
 
After flagging off the TCS Fit4Life Campus Challenge in Mumbai, N. Chandrasekaran, CEO & MD said: “It was terrific to see over 22,000 youngsters participating in the TCS Fit4Life Campus Challenge all over India. Fitness is really catching on among the youth of this country and we are proud to promote TCS Fit4Life to drive wellness in the country. Though active programs like today’s run, we hope to touch the lives of one million people in India through TCS Fit4Life program in the next five years.”
 
The TCS Fit4Life Campus Challenge event ambassador and Olympian, PT Usha told the assembled students across cities: “The TCS Fit4life Campus Challenge aspires to introduce the joy of running and the importance of fitness to the next generation. I am very happy that my foundation (Usha School of Athletics) is associated with the TCSFit4life Campus Challenge as this provides not only support to young women athletes but also raises awareness about fitness in the community.”
 
TCS Fit4Life, is an initiative that concept marries wellness, team spirit and social cause into one. This unique workplace-organized fitness initiative is designed to inspire fun, fitness and camaraderie in competition and, of course, for the social good.
