In a rare blend of spirituality and compassionate healthcare, the Omkarnath Mission, a philanthropic unit of Akhil Bharat Jaiguru Sampradaya, has established a Hospice at Mahamilan Math, offering dignified end-of-life care to terminally ill patients in and around Kolkata.

The facility, run under the spiritual inspiration of the prophet of harmony and peace, Sri Sri  Sitaramdas Omkarnath, seeks to provide physical comfort, emotional peace, and spiritual solace to those nearing the end of life.

Chief of the order Akhil Bharat Jaiguru Sampradaya, spread globally and followed by millions of devotees and hundred twenty Ashrams founded by Sri Sri Omkarnath Dev from Uttarkashi to Kanyakumari, Reverent Kinkar Vitthal Ramanuja - The President Maharaj said, "Situated within the serene premises of Mahamilan Math, the hospice functions as an extension of the Mission’s long-standing tradition of seva (service). Visiting  doctors, nurses, and volunteers work side by side with monks and devotees to deliver palliative and hospice care, ensuring that patients spend their final days with dignity and compassion. Kinkar Priyanath Ji , administrative Head of the order as General Secretary and President , Omkarnath Mission working rigorously to serve the community through sustainable development and Sri Nam Prachar."

“Serving the dying is serving the living God,” said Kinkar Priyanath, General Secretary ABJS & President Omkarnath Mission.

“Here, every act of care is an offering to the Divine," he said.

"Nationaly Sri Sri Omkarnath Dev founded hundred twenty Ashrams, Veda Vidyalaya, Gurukuls, Hospitals, Vedic Vidyalaya , Guest Houses, Indological Study and Research centers under a national trust Akhil Bharat Jaiguru Sampradaya. Mahamilan Math is the international head quarter of Akhil Bharat Jaiguru Sampradaya -  one of India’s most respected spiritual and humanitarian organisation, continues to uphold the ideals of its founder, Sri Sri Omkarnath Dev , more than 60 years after its inception both in India and abroad. Blending spirituality with social service, the Omkarnath  Mission remains a living expression of the teachings of Sri Sri Omkarnath Dev , whose message of harmony, compassion, and realization of God in humanity has inspired generations," he said.

Unlike conventional hospitals, the hospice offers a tranquil environment where healing takes place through empathy and spiritual presence. The soothing chants of Hari Naam fill the air as caregivers tend to patients with love and gentleness. Pain management, emotional counseling, and spiritual guidance are integral to the treatment process.

Family members are encouraged to stay with patients, sharing moments of remembrance and peace. For those unable to travel, the Mission also provides home-based palliative care, with regular visits by trained staff and volunteers.

The hospice is open to people from all backgrounds, regardless of religion or economic status.

For many destitute or abandoned patients, Omkarnath Mission becomes a final refuge — a place where they are treated not as sufferers but as souls completing their sacred journey.

The Mission’s broader outreach includes medical camps, spiritual counseling, and awareness programs to promote palliative care education in Kolkata and nearby districts.

At a time when palliative and hospice care services remain limited in India, the Omkarnath Mission hospice stands as a model for integrating spiritual values with modern medical practice.

Healthcare experts have praised the initiative for addressing the emotional and spiritual dimensions of dying — areas often overlooked in clinical settings.
