Assam flood situation still grim, over 3.86 lakh people affected

Guwahati, June 15 (IBNS): The current Assam flood situation worsened while flood waters inundated more areas affecting over 3.86 lakh people in 8 districts ai, Karbi Anglong West, Karbi Anglong East, Golaghat, Hojai, Biswanath and Cachar district are affected in the current flood.

Several landslide incidents triggered by incessant rains have also been reported in hill district Dima Hasao.

Two persons had died in landslides at Mahur area under Haflong sub division in the hill district yesterday and 166 houses were fully damaged.

Rainfall  triggered  Landslide  occurred  at Mahur, Harangajao,  Maibang,  Dima Hasao  in  which  136 houses  were  fully damaged  and  in  Birubari,  Nizarapara, Kamrup  Metro  where  no  casualty  has been reported so  far. 

On the other hand, one person drowned at Bokakhat area in Golaghat district on Thursday.

On Friday, several new landslide incidents have been reported from the hill district.

Over 67,000 people have taken shelter at 178 relief camps set by the administration of the flood-hit districts.

Flood situation worsened in Hailakandi, Karimganj districts in Barak valley, where over 2.05 lakh people affected alone in Hailakandi while 1.32 lakh people affected in Karimganj district. 

Barak river at Badarpurghat in Karimganj district, Katakhal river at Matizuri in Hailakandi district and Kushiyara river in Karimganj district are flowing above danger level.

Following incessant rains, water level of Brahmaputra river and its tributaries have been gradually increased in different places and also flown above danger level mark in many places.

Assam government has alerted flood-hit districts administration and NDRF, SDRF teams also engaged in rescue operations.

NDRF  (National Disaster  Response  Force) and  SDRF  (State  Disaster  Response Force)  and  Assam  Rifles teams  have been  engaged      into  service  in  the flood affected  areas  for  search  and  rescue operation.  

471  Person  have  been  rescued  in  from Karimganj  district,  Hailakandi,    Cachar and  Golaghat  by  them.

162  number  of  Camps  are  operational in  Karimganj,  Hailakandi,  Karbi  Anglong (East)  and  Golaghat with  67,175  inmates.  

There  has  been  time  to  time  slow release  of  water  from  the  Ranganadi Hydro  Electric  Project; however  the situation  is  under  control. 

The  District  Administration  of  the downstream  districts  is  in close coordination  with  NEEPCO  and  is  kept on  high  alert.
