Manama/IBNS: Bahrain became the second country in the world to approve an emergency use of the vaccine against Covid-19 developed by US pharmaceutical giant Pfizer and its German partner BioNTech.

"The approval of the Pfizer/BioNTech vaccine will add a further important layer to the kingdom's national Covid-19 response," Mariam al-Jalahma, CEO of the National Health Regulatory Authority, said as quoted by NDTV.

However, the date for the roll out of the vaccine has not been specified.

Bahrain has so far recorded 87,600 Covid-19 cases and 341 deaths due to the virus.

The United Kingdom on Wednesday became the first country to approve the same vaccine, which turned out to be the first remedy against Covid-19 to get an emergency approval.

The vaccination process will begin within a few days based on the basis of priority in the UK.
