COVID-19: West Bengal sees highest-ever single-day spike of 624 cases, 14 more deaths reported

Kolkata/IBNS: With highest-ever single-day spike of 624 cases, the total number of confirmed Covid-19 infections in West Bengal has reached 17907, including 5535 active ones, 653 deaths and 11719 discharges, reports said on Monday.

According to a bulletin issued by West Bengal Health and Family Welfare (WBHFW) department, 14 people succumbed to virus in the last 24 hours while 526 more Covid-19 patients were discharged from various health facilities across the state, taking the recovery rate to 65.44 per cent.

The WBHFW bulletin stated that of the 624 fresh cases, 472 cases were reported from four neighbouring districts— Kolkata (180), North 24 Parganas (121), Howrah (95) and South 24 Parganas (76), while Darjeeling and Malda districts in north Bengal recorded 30 and 28 fresh Covid-19 cases respectively in the past 24 hours.

West Bengal has tested 4,78,419 samples till date with 9513 tests conducted in 51 testing facilities across the state in the last 24 hours, reports said.

Currently, 6931 persons are kept in government quarantine centres and 71466 people are under home surveillance in the state.
