Covid19: Britain announced 'zero deaths' on Tuesday amid fears of third wave

The fresh cases also plummeted as Britain recorded 3,165 infections, against 3,383 on Monday but this figure was 2,493 one week ago, a BBC report said.

The country reported zero deaths amid fears of an early third wave as a small rise in cases linked to the coronavirus variant first identified in India, it added.

However, the BBC report pointed out that deaths are often reported less on weekends and at the start of the weeks as less counting takes place while statisticians are off and in case of bank holidays also fall on the weekend, the figures could be less certain

Any deaths that happen on Tuesday will be reported in days to come, it noted.

Health Secretary Matt Hancock said the entire country would be "so glad" to get the news and attributed the possible zero deaths to the efficacy of vaccines.

"The vaccines are clearly working - protecting you, those around you and your loved ones," he was quoted as saying by BBC.

"But despite this undoubtedly good news we know we haven't beaten this virus yet, and with cases continuing to rise please remember hands, face, space and let in fresh air when indoors, and of course, make sure when you can you get both jabs," he added.

However, health authorities in the country expressed concern that the cases have risen and called on the people to get vaccinated.
