Goa records first Omicron case

Panaji/UNI: First Omicron case was reported in Goa on Monday, state Health Minister Vishwajit Rane said.

An 8-year-old boy who had traveled from the UK on December 17, has tested positive for the virus.

"8 yr old boy who had traveled from the UK on 17.12.2021 has tested positive for #OmicronVirus as confirmed by NIV Pune," Rane said in his Facebook post.

"We will take steps as per the protocol of Government of India.

"Necessary stringent measures will be taken by the government of Goa in public interest based on the advice given by the expert committee," he said.

Union Health Ministry data earlier in the day released the Omicron data that showed there were 578 cases logged till Monday morning.
