Google doodle gets a Juno makeover

Mountain View, July 5 (IBNS): Google on Tuesday decorated its homepage with a doodle dedicated to Juno, the spacecraft that successfully entered Jupiter's orbit.

Up until now, no spacecraft had images of Jupiter's orbit, but NASA's Juno Mission accomplished the job on Tuesday.

The solar powered spacecraft took five years and travelled 1.8 billion miles before it reached Jupiter's orbit.

The spacecraft braved a field of space rocks and intense radiation to reach its destination at 3.18 GMT.

After reaching its destination, NASA's Juno Mission tweeted: "All rays on me. My solar panels now face the sun. I’m the farthest solar-powered spacecraft from Earth. #Jupiter."

Post their success, Diane Brown, the project manager said that it is an overwhelming experience.

"The risks that were overcome, it’s amazing. The more you know about the mission the more you know about how tricky it was," she told media.

"To know we can go to bed tonight not worrying about what is going to happen tomorrow, is just amazing," Brown added.
