Heatwave condition continues in Delhi

New Delhi: Delhi continues to reel under the severe heatwave conditions with the temperature recording over 40 degrees Celsius till 1130 hours on Saturday , as per India Meteorological Department.

The Palam observatory till 1130 hours recorded the maximum temperature at 41.6 degrees Celsius, while Pitampura at 42.91 degrees Celsius.

"The sky will remain clear during the day. Heatwave conditions to remain at many places with severe at isolated places," an official of IMD said.

He said the minimum temperature was recorded at 25.7 degrees Celsius, two notches above the Norma and the maximum temperature is likely to hover at around 44 degrees Celsius.

The weather official also informed that the severe heatwave conditions will continue to prevail in the national capital till May 2.

He also said there is no rainfall on forecast. Meanwhile, the IMD in a series of tweets said, "Heatwave conditions to continue over Northwest and Central India till May 2 and over East India till April 30 and abate thereafter."

"Heatwave conditions in some/isolated parts over Punjab, Haryana-Chandigarh-Delhi, East Madhya Pradesh, Telangana, Jammu Division and Vidarbha to continue till May 2," it said.

The IMD said thunderstorm activity likely to enhance over East and Northeast India from Saturday and over northwest India from May 3.
