Heavy rains kill 16, 94 thousand relocated due to floods

Beijing, Jul 4 (IBNS): Heavy rains killed at least 16 people in south China's Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region, local Xinhua news agency reported.

Incessant rains on Sunday inundated the region, resulting in the relocation of 94,000 citizens.

Among the affected areas are Zhicheng Village of Tengxian County, Guilin City, Zhicheng Village of Tengxian County among others.

Following the calamity, Beijing has issued a grade-IV emergency response on Monday.

"The disaster has caused around 2.9 billion yuan (430 million U.S. dollars) in direct economic losses," Xinhua reported.

The grade four is the lowest in China's emergency response system.

It requires a 24-hour vigilance, daily damage reports and aid delivered within 48 hours.
