India reports 8,774 new Covid -19 cases in last 24 hrs

New Delhi/UNI: India reported 8,774 new cases of Covid-19 and 621 corona related deaths during the past 24 hours, said the latest update by the Ministry of Health and Family welfare on Sunday.

Addition of these new fatalities takes the country's total death toll to 4,68,554.

Meanwhile, active cases have declined to 1,05,691, which is lowest in 543 days.

The recovery rate touched 98. 34 per cent as 9,481 patients recovered from the virus during the last 24 hours taking the cumulative tally of recovered patients to 3,39,98,278.

“The daily positivity rate is 0.80 per cent, which is less than 2 per cent for the last 55 days, whereas the weekly positivity rate is 0.85 per cent which also remains less than 1 per cent for the last 61 days now,” the Ministry reported.

The testing capacity across the country continues to be expanded. India has so far conducted over 63.94 Crore tests across the country.

With the administration of 76,58,203 vaccine doses during the last 24 hours, India’s COVID-19 vaccination coverage has exceeded 118.44 crores, the Ministry said.

More than 135 crore vaccine doses have been provided to States/UTs so far through direct state procurement category, said the report.

"More than 22.83 cr balance and unutilized COVID Vaccine doses are still available with the States/UTs,” said the Ministry.
