New Delhi/IBNS: India, which has been battling Novel Coronavirus since late January, on Friday witnessed the biggest spike in Covid-19 cases with the report of over 77,000 cases in the last 24 hours.

With 77,266 new cases, India's Covid tally has now touched 33,87,500.

The country of 1.3 billion people has now 7,42,023 active cases, the second highest in the world after the United States.

The Covid toll in the vast country has touched 61,529 as 1,057 patients have succumbed to the disease in 24 hours between Thursday and Friday mornings.

The Union Health Minister has said the fatality rate is lower in India due to the "strategic implementation" of the government's approach to tackle the virus.

However, several medical experts have warned that India's poor health infrastructure might get overwhelmed if the infection rate massively increases.
