New Delhi/IBNS: India, which is reporting a steady decline in Novel Coronavirus cases over the last several weeks, reported almost 24,000 fresh infections in 24 hours between Tuesday and Wednesday mornings.

With 23,950 new cases, the total number of infections surged to 1,00,99,066.

26,895 people, who were infected with the deadly virus, have recovered in the same span of time.

In the last 24 hours, 333 deaths apparently due to the contagion were reported taking the toll to 1,46,444.

There are 2,89,240 active cases across the country.

Meanwhile, the central government on Tuesday said the new strain of Coronavirus, which is 70 per cent more infectious and was first detected in the United Kingdom in September, has not been seen in India so far.

"The new strain or mutation of (the) coronavirus in the United Kingdom has not been seen in India, so far," Dr VK Paul, a member of government think-tank NITI Aayog, said.

"(And) as of now, it has no impact on the potential of vaccines being developed in our country and (which) are available in other countries," he added.
