India's COVID-19 tally crosses 17 lakh mark with over 54,000 cases in last 24 hrs

New Delhi/IBNS: With the registration of 54,735 fresh cases in the last 24 hours, India's coronavirus tally on Sunday crossed the grim milestone of 17 lakh mark.

As per the Union Health Ministry bulletin, the country presently has 17,50,723 infections of the deadly virus. The death toll jumped to 37,364 with 853 death recorded in the last 24 hours.

Meanwhile, 11.45 lakh patients have recovered taking the recovery rate to 65.43 per cent as of Sunday.

India so far conducted tests on 1,98,21,831 samples.

According to the government, there has been a steady improvement in India's COVID-19 recovery rate since lockdown initiation on March 25.

Globally the contagion has affected the lives of 17.5 million including 685,054 deaths.
