New Delhi/IBNS: India's Covid-19 toll on Wednesday neared 12,000 with a record jump of over 2,000 deaths due to the contagion in the last 24 hours.

As per the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare, India's Covid toll now stands at 11,903.

With 10,974 new Covid cases reported between Tuesday and Wednesday mornings, the total number of infections across the country increased to 3,54,065.

However, the recovery rate in India is higher than the active cases giving a ray of hope to 1.3 billion people of the country.

1,86,935 people have so far recovered from Coronavirus in the country as compared to 1,55,227 active cases.

Meanwhile, Prime Minister Narendra Modi will on Wednesday meet Chief Ministers of various states to discuss the Covid-19 situation.

Modi on Tuesday during his first of the two-day meeting with the CMs highlighted the recovery rate in the country.

Amid the deteriorating condition worldwide, experts in the United Kingdom have suggested that treating Coronavirus patients with low doses of the generic steroid drug dexamethasone have been effective in reducing death rates.

According to new trial data published on Tuesday, the drug had reduced death rates by around a third among those having the most severe conditions due to the infection.
