Magnitude 5.1 earthquake strikes Bay of Bengal, tremors felt in Kolkata

An earthquake measuring 5.1 on the Richter Scale hit the Bay of Bengal region with tremors being felt in parts of West Bengal, Odisha and Bangladesh on Tuesday.

Tremors were felt in Kolkata, South 24 Parganas, Dum Dum at around 6.10 am.

The National Center for Seismology (NCS) said the epicentre of the quake was located at a depth of 91 kms.

"EQ of M: 5.1, On: 25/02/2025 06:10:25 IST, Lat: 19.52 N, Long: 88.55 E, Depth: 91 Km, Location: Bay of Bengal," NCS posted on X.

No casualty has been reported so far.

Tremors were also felt in neighbouring Bangladesh.

Delhi earthquake

Last week,  an earthquake measuring 4 on the Richter Scale hit Delhi and adjoining areas forcing people to rush out from their residences.

As per data shared by the agency, the epicentre of the earthquake was New Delhi.

The depth of the quake was 5 km.

No severe damage to property or casualty was reported.
