Maharashtra govt sanctions second corpus of Rs 129 cr to fight COVID-19

Thane/UNI: Maharashtra government has sanctioned a corpus of Rs 129 crores for ramping up the medical fight against the COVID-19 as the pandemic has severely hit the state.

With a rising pandemic trajectory, the state also accounts for the highest number of fatalities across India.

This is the second corpus released to mitigate the pandemic as Rs 210.56 crores have been disbursed in the state earlier.

Maharashtra Urban Development Minister Eknath Shinde said that he had requested Chief Minister Uddhav Thackeray for granting additional funds for combating the Corona scourge.

Shinde, who is also Thane Guardian Minister apprised, that the corpus of Rs 129 crores has been divided in a monetary ratio of 109:20 for respective divisions of Konkan and Aurangabad.

From Konkan's share of Rs 109 crore, Thane has been allotted Rs 35 crores while the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation has received a whopping Rs 60 crores.

While, Raigadh district as well as the Vasai Virar civic body will be given Rs 5 crores each and the remaining Rs 4 crores goes to Palghar.

Speaking categorically about Thane district, which has surging number of cases, Minister Shinde informed that from Rs 35 crores, the suburbs of Kalyan, Mira Bhayander and Navi Mumbai will receive Rs 10 crores each while the remaining Rs 5 crores will be given to Thane city.
