Manipur continues to be on alert on fear of tumultuous weather

Imphal, May 3 (UNI) Manipur continued to be on alert as there was fear of strong wind and heavy rainfall lashing the state.

The bodies of the three persons who went missing during a boat ride were found.

Educational institutes which remained closed since April 28 weather fury were all opened. Telephone, power supply were also mostly restored.

The bodies of the three persons, including two brothers, who went missing on April 28 last were recovered. Body of Sagakpam Rajiv (36) was recovered yesterday while the body of his younger brother Sagakpam Romen (31) and Ningthoujam Rina (20) were recovered today. All were from Ningthoukhong, Bishenpur district. Twelve people, including wives of the two brothers, had gone for a boat ride at Chadong when two boats were overturned by the strong wind. All other nine persons were rescued .

The search operations which began on April 28 was joined by a team of 12 Naval divers and two hydrographers (survey sailors) who were airlifted from Visakhapatnam by an IAF aircraft to Imphal on Tuesday evening. The naval diving team carried necessary diving equipment including portable side scan sonar for locating objects underwater . The team had joined the search operation along with NDRF team and civil authorities in locating the three persons.

After the incident the government has banned use of unauthorized boat at the water bodies. Life jackets were also advised to all who wanted to use the boats.
