Medicon International: Andrew Collier advises people to focus on exercising, bringing changes in lifestyle to combat Type 2 Diabetes

Kolkata/IBNS: Top UK doctor Andrew Collier, a fellow of Royal College of Physicians of Edinburgh, who was in Kolkata to attend the Medicon International this week, has advised people to exercise and bring changes to their lifestyles to combat Type 2 Diabetes.

"We are surrounded by food in cafe society. We don't eat when we are hungry but eat when we see food. Today, we are surrounded by unhealthy foods that looks appetizing and tasty but they are high in fat and highly concentrated. So, to manage such things people need to exercise to avoid obesity," he warned and cautioned people to bring changes in their lifestyles.

Stressing on the need to play outdoor sports, he said children these days are preferring to play games on their mobile phones and computer instead of playing outside.

"They are not running out in parks as we did as a child," he said.

Collier said bariatric surgery works well on patients who have the willingness to change.

"It is a fantastic procedure for the right patient who has the right mind and willingness to change. It works on them very well," he said.

Instead of using cars and escalators every time, Collier adviced people to walk more and use staircases to keep themselves fit.

"We should enjoy exercising. People can even organize and play outdoor games in small groups," he said as he suggested various ways to people to keep themselves healthy.
