London/IBNS: The United Kingdom on Friday reported 93,045 new COVID-19 cases, a third consecutive record daily tally, as the Omicron variant triggers a concern amid the surge in infections.

The fesh infections have taken the total number of cases during the pandemic to more than 11.1 million.

The country also registered a further 111 deaths from the virus, taking the death count to more than 147,000.

The World Health Organization (WHO) on Thursday reminded Europeans to remain vigilant against COVID-19 spread as they round out the year with friends and family.
