US: Bear kills 16-year-old race participant in Alaska

Juneau, Jun 20 (IBNS): A 16-year-old race participant was killed by a black bear in Alaska on Sunday, reports said.

The deceased, identified as Patrick Cooper, is a resident of Anchorage city.

The deceased texted his family after being attacked by the bear while taking part in the 29th annual Robert Spurr Memorial Hill Climb race between Anchorage and Girdwood, a report in the local Alaska Dispatch News read.

Following a search, officials found the bear and shot at it but it survived and ran off.

Cooper's remains were airlifted from the scene.
