West Bengal reports 850 fresh Covid-19 cases, death toll crosses 800 mark

Kolkata/IBNS: With 850 new infections reported in the last 24 hours, the total number of confirmed Covid-19 cases in West Bengal has mounted to 23,837, including 7,243 active cases, 804 deaths and 15,790 discharges, reports said on Tuesday.

According to a bulletin issued by West Bengal Health and Family Welfare (WBHFW), the state on Tuesday recorded a highest single-day spike in deaths with 25 fatalities reported in the past 24 hours, while 555 more Covid-19 patients were discharged from various health facilities across the state, taking the recovery rate to 66.24 per cent.

In the state capital Kolkata, with 291 fresh cases and 10 more deaths reported in the last 24 hours, the total tally has reached 7,680, including 2552 active cases, 438 fatalities and 4690 recoveries, the bulletin read. 

West Bengal has tested 5,62,137 samples till date with 10,130 tests being conducted in 52 testing facilities across the state in the past 24 hours, reports said.

Currently, 5294 persons are kept in government quarantine centres and 38,614 people are under home surveillance in the state.

Meanwhile, to contain the spread of Covid-19, West Bengal government on Tuesday announced to enforce strict lockdown again in broad-based containment areas across the state from 5 pm. on Thursday (July 9).//
