British Council offers Summer School courses

Kolkata, Apr 13 (IBNS): The British Council Kolkata on Saturday announced details of the Summer School courses for 2014.
British Council noted that the 'Young Learner Summer School' courses with the theme of ‘Around the World in 15 Days’ will help facilitate creative and imaginative thought, challenge and support learning and develop communicative skills.
 
The three week courses which lead to the completion of a themed project for young learners run over a 15-day period (Monday to Friday) fromMay 19 to Jun 6, 2014.
 
Children will study topics such as ‘My City’; ‘Customs from Around the World’; Young People from Around the World’ ‘Pen Pals’; ‘Countries of the World’, which will give them the opportunity to spend a constructive summer improving their language skills and developing confidence in an enjoyable atmosphere. 
 
In addition, the British Council is offering general and spoken English courses as well as IELTS preparation courses for adults who are keen to develop their language skills and expand their horizons by boosting their confidence and ability in English.
 
Courses for children:
 
Ace Teens (13 to 15 year olds)
Shining Stars (11 and 12 year olds)
Whizz Kids (8 to 10 year olds)
 
Classes for young learners will run at several convenient time slots from Monday to Friday between 08.15 in the morning and 17.15 in the afternoon.
 
By practicing speaking, listening, reading, writing and vocabulary and grammar children will develop clarity and confidence when using English.
 
All the courses are specially designed to give children the English language skills to plan, design and complete fun and educational projects and tasks. 
 
Each two-hour lesson develops a new aspect of English and presents a new task or challenge. In the final lesson, the class will present a final performance for parents.
 
Each course will cover the following components:
 
Speaking skills for group-based problem solving and discussion tasks
Vocabulary and grammar input provides useful phrases and language for communicating in English
Audio-visual and website content to develop listening and reading skills
Development of knowledge about the World and associated themes
Project work leading to production of a class magazine and a final performance for parents to watch
