From groceries to glory: Zomawi's inspiring journey to building a flourishing bakery business in Mizoram

Aizawl/IBNS: Zomawi Hrahsel's name is well-known throughout Mizoram as a purveyor of high-quality bakery products. Her bakery has gained a loyal following in the region, owing to its distinctive flavors, creative offerings, and use of top-notch ingredients.

However, what truly sets Zomawi's story apart is her remarkable journey from running a modest family-owned grocery store to establishing a thriving bakery that now provides employment for more than ten individuals, reported Northeast Weekly.

In 1997, Zomawi embarked on her entrepreneurial journey as a single mother of three children. Together with her husband, she managed a modest grocery store in Aizawl, the capital city of Mizoram.

During this period, Zomawi developed a keen interest in baking, and the couple started producing cakes and other bakery items for sale in their shop.

As their bakery products began to outperform their grocery items in sales, they made the strategic decision to shift their focus to the bakery business.

After the passing of her husband in 2010, she was left to run the bakery single-handedly.

Nevertheless, Zomawi refused to be deterred and redoubled her efforts, transforming her small store into a flourishing enterprise that generates over 50 lakhs in sales annually.

Zomawi's bakery stands out from the crowd due to its focus on quality and innovation. She and her team employ premium ingredients and local flavors to craft distinctive bakery products that cater to the region's taste preferences.

From biscuits to custom cakes for various occasions, Zomawi has something for everyone.

She also engages in philanthropy within her local community, distributing bakery products during special occasions such as Christmas to those in need.

For her, success entails not only operating a profitable business but also giving back to the community that has supported her throughout her journey.
