New Delhi/IBNS: The Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA) on Monday granted permission to universities and institutions to hold the final term examinations, which are pending since March due to anti-coronavirus lockdown.

In a letter to the Higher Education Secretary, the ministry permitted universities to conduct the long-pending exams maintaining the safety protocols.

"The final term examinations are to be compulsorily conducted as per the UGC Guidelines and academic calendar for the Universities and as per the Standard Operating Procedure approved by the Union Ministry of Health and Family Welfare," the letter said.

This comes even as India on Monday reported over 24,000 fresh Novel Coronavirus cases taking the overall tally of infections close to seven lakhs.

With 425 new fatalities, the death toll related to the contagion touched 19,693.
