Kolkata, Mar 8 (IBNS): Story, a bookstore in Kolkata from Primarc Group of Companies, celebrated the International Women's Day by bringing together Sudeshna Basu along with other eminent personalities, including Dolly Basu, Anashua Majumdar and Biblab Dasgupta, in one common platform for 'I am not a mother - Noho Mata', on Sunday.

‘I am not a mother - nohot mata’ is a musical drama and discussion conceptualized and scripted by Sudeshna Basu to explore the various layers defining the identity of a woman.

Sudeshna Basu is a mathematician by trainee and a well known face in the world of Rabindra Sangeet

The event focused on the topical issues like how society perceives a woman in different roles like that of a mother, wife, and daughter but does one want to see what goes on inside a woman’s mind, what is her identity?

This program explored and rediscovered a woman’s soul through writings of Maya Angelou who asserts “I am a phenomenal woman”, Virginia Wolf who believes that a woman needs “..a room of one’s own" and Elizabeth Gilbert who realizes “I don’t want to be married anymore. I don’t want to live in this big house. I don’t want to have a baby.”

The discussion explored the relationship between Virginia Wolf and Victoria Ocampo. The program also transcended and connected to Tagore-an heroines who were bold and beautiful and never played the role of a mother.
